
Salary: $100,000 – 120,000 per year
Requirements:
- We require a bachelors or masters degree in a related discipline.
- We require 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with C# and modern cross-platform .NET.
- We need strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, close attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.
- We require hands-on experience building and supporting back-end services and APIs, including data access and work with relational databases such as MS SQL Server.
- We expect working knowledge of modern front-end development, such as React, Vite, or Next.js, sufficient to contribute when needed.
- We value experience using AI tools thoughtfully across the development lifecycle while maintaining quality and security standards.
- We require the ability to work in person in Williamsburg, VA, within daily commuting distance.
- We require United States citizenship.
- We are not considering recent graduates; this role requires at least 7 years of experience.
Responsibilities:
- We collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand business goals, user needs, and product direction.
- We participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and support incremental delivery and continuous improvement.
- We contribute to technical discussions by weighing tradeoffs, asking thoughtful questions, and aligning implementation with intended outcomes.
- We design, develop, and maintain reliable, secure, high-performing back-end services and APIs using .NET, ASP.NET Core, and C#.
- We create relational database schemas and write efficient SQL Server queries and data access patterns.
- We apply clean code practices, secure coding habits, and principles such as SOLID in day-to-day development.
- We build and maintain modern web UI components when needed using technologies such as React, Vite, and Next.js.
- We handle end-to-end product concerns including authentication flows, API contracts, error handling, and user experience impacts.
- We contribute to solution design using modern approaches such as microservices, domain-driven design, event-driven systems, and RESTful services.
- We participate in design reviews and help keep implementations maintainable and aligned with team standards.
- We integrate applications with identity and access management providers such as Entra ID or Auth0.
- We support integrations with enterprise platforms such as LMS, EAM, and HCM systems.
- We write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to reduce defects and regression risk.
- We develop proof-of-concepts to evaluate new tools and frameworks when appropriate.
- We build software with operational readiness in mind, including observability, resilience, and secure-by-default practices.
- We use Docker to standardize and simplify deployments.
- We apply infrastructure-as-code practices, such as Bicep, to provision Azure resources including App Services, Azure SQL Databases, Storage Accounts, Function Apps, and Key Vaults.
- We use message brokers such as Azure Service Bus or RabbitMQ for event-driven workflows where appropriate.
- We follow suitable Git branching strategies and contribute to Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, including quality gates such as linting, static analysis, and build/test automation.
- We use modern AI tools responsibly to speed up tasks such as scaffolding, refactoring, and test generation while preserving code quality and security.
- We stay current on AI developments that may improve engineering workflows.
